We sat down for a quick Q&A with one of our Agents, Katelyn Crooks! See below to see what she had to say about real estate and other fun topics!
What made you want to become a Realtor?
I had been working in real estate for 7 years, selling new home construction and I always felt torn between working for the builder and the client. I wanted to be able to focus on my client’s goals and dedicate my work to helping them make the right choices.
Why do you believe working with a Realtor is important?
Put simply “you don’t know what you don’t know” and every real estate transaction has its own obstacles and challenges. It’s important to have a realtor that is knowledgeable about the market – to get you the best value on the home you are buying or selling, that is well-versed about the contractual obligations of a transaction – and mostly to keep you informed and give you peace of mind that you are making the right decisions.
What do you love most about Real Estate?
I love the relationships that I’ve made from this business. In real estate you learn a lot about people and you help them through huge life changes. You grow close with people in a short amount of time and feel like family!
What are some of your favorite things to do in our area?
One of my favorite hobbies is exploration through food. I am an extensive reader of all things food related- reading Washingtonian top restaurants, food critic reviews, and verifying through yelp reviews and photos! I’ll pick a restaurant and then before or after a meal explore the neighborhood. I like to select a nearby place for cocktails and then walk around the block to see the house styles, get a feel for the vibe of the neighborhood and see if there are any other cool spots to check out.
What is your favorite season and why?
Christmas season! Does that count?! I don’t love winter, but I get all ooey gooey and extremely happy just thinking about all things Christmas. I decorate my house in November, start listening to Christmas songs and watch every Christmas movie I can.
Everything happens the way it’s meant to.
Why is now the right time to buy or sell real estate?
We live in a bustling area that only continues to bring more jobs and industry to the area every year. Interest rates are still low, and owning a home is still one of the best ways to build wealth.
I have a real weakness for….
puppies and 90’s R&B
What is a common misconception about Realtors?
That all realtors are the same. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are those that are committed to excellence, devote themselves to their clients, and are excellent problem solvers. Other simply have lower standards. It’s unfortunate, but also why I’m so proud to be on a team of realtors that has the same core values of having integrity and providing top notch service.
Best book that you’ve read in the last year:
The Inner Matrix, by Joey Klein. It’s a brilliant manual for self-mastery and finding inner peace that I have read at least 4 times.
If you could give any advice to your younger self what would it be?
Don’t be so hard on yourself.
What is your signature drink?
Anytime is a good time for a glass of red wine.
Any advice for a first-time homebuyer?
Everyone shops online for houses first these days, which is great. But having an agent to make sure you understand your options and help you achieve your goals will ensure that you feel great about your decision in the end.
